Riverby Estate Riesling 2011
Our prized Riesling block is one of the oldest in Marlborough and is located in the premium grape-growing heart of Marlborough, where some of the greatest Rieslings can be found. 2011 was a perfect season for Riesling with our low cropped fruit attaining perfect ripeness. Coming in at less than eight tonnes per hectare and carefully hand-picked so that only the very best and cleanest bunches were selected we think our 2011 Rieslings could be some of our best yet. After careful handling throughout, this wine was bottled on 15 March 2012.
It is a very pale straw in colour with fantastic aromatics as befitting a premium Riesling. Florals, herbs, citrus and apples, this rich and vibrant wine has it all. It is delightfully crisp and dry with peaches and lovely citrus characters, including mandarin and ripe grapefruit, even a hint of Valencia oranges. On the palate it is very appealing, medium bodied and rich with great acid balance and freshness. It finishes with lingering fruitiness and intensity, the crisp lime characters increasingly obvious in a wine which initially hides its dryness with such ripe fruit characters. It promises to age gracefully and develop even greater charm for many years.
Alcohol: 11.8%, Acidity: 8.5, PH: 2.86, Sugars: 7.1 g/l.
"Terrific Riesling that benefits from a touch of residual sugar which works with the fruity acidity to build a lovely tension in the wine. Good weight and mouth feel. Long. 90/100 "

Pale straw-lemon in colour, this wine has classical fresh, crisp, dry Riesling aromas of lemon and lime citrus, minerals and florals, with an enchanting rich, ripe stone-fruit character, almost nectarine. The palate abounds with the spicy citrus and peachy stone-fruit characters. It is a rich and mouth-filling wine with bright, crisp acidity; very refreshing and fruity. The finish is long and lingering, elegant and refreshing with perfectly refined clean and crisp fruit characters. Overall an impeccable wine that promises to evolve even further given time in bottle.

"This is a lovely dry Riesling displaying delicate and pure aromas of lime zest and floral with a touch of flinty characters. The palate is precise and focused with vibrant acidity and lingering elegant finish. Dry Rieslings can be "lean and mean" when young, not this one. It's already lovely drinking but should develop beautifully to show greater complexity and intensity. At its best: now to 2016. 90/100"

"Dry style with fresh lemon, apple and lime flavours, crisp and minerally. Tight, youthful wine that should reward cellaring; open 2011+"
Michael Cooper, Winestate, 2011
"The 2009 Riesling has vibrant apple, pear and lemon curd aromas plus nuances of orange blossom and honeysuckle. Dry, light to medium bodied, the palate is a little young and tight with a good line of refreshing acidity and a long fruity finish. It should be best from 2011 to 2015. 89/100"

Pale lemon in colour, this wine has classical fresh, crisp, dry riesling aromas of lime citrus, minerals, river-stones and florals. On the palate it is pleasantly mouthfilling and perfectly balanced with crisp acidity and beautifully lingering lifted lemon and lime notes. Citrus characters abound on the palate with limes and grapefruit prominent. It has an impeccable limey finish which lingers impressively. "The fine and elegant nose displays lemon/lime, floral and subtle chalky mineral notes. It's stunningly pure. It's focused and concentrated on the palate showing lovely fine texture, crisp acidity and a lingering dry finish. The wine is exquisite and beautifully poised. A magnificent dry Riesling ready to drink now but will reward those who wait a few years. At its best: now to 2016.

"The 2008 Riesling is an excellent Riesling from Riverby Estate, its bouquet demonstrating impressive focus and vigor: dried apricot, orange-blossom, a hint of mango and a touch of smoke. The palate is clean and well balanced, packed full of flavor with peach, apricot, lemon zest and a very faint hint of lemongrass. Excellent. 90/100"
