Riverby Chardonnay 2013
  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2013

    • 2013 is already considered to be potentially one of the great Marlborough vintages. A long dry, hot summer ensured fruit ripened perfectly and without any pressure from disease. When the time finally came for harvest we were presented with fruit of exceptional quality and finesse.
The fruit for this wine was picked only slightly earlier than usual, in early April, from the very best rows on our Jacksons Road vineyard. We aim to produce a perfectly ripe style of Sauvignon and to achieve this we utilise careful viticultural practices to ensure low yielding, impeccably clean, ripe fruit. The grapes were harvested in the cool of night to retain the classical Sauvignon characters. This wine was entirely fermented and handled in stainless steel and was retained on lees for several months to gain extra complexity.
Pale lemon, light straw in colour, it has a vivacious lifted nose with exuberant notes of capsicum, black passionfruit, gooseberry and freshly cut grass, underpinned by delicate herbal hints and an invigorating burst of lime and grapefruit. On the palate it is medium bodied and beautifully textured, mouth-filling and moreish. This is a very elegant wine, beautifully weighted with delicate acids. The passionfruit and herbal characters abound on the palate, with nuances of ripe stonefruits, and the finish is long, lingering and refined with the lasting impression being of a beautifully crisp, clean and refreshing wine.
Like most of our previous Sauvignons it will continue to develop and gain even greater complexity for many years.

      Alcohol:12.9%, Acidity: 7.1, PH: 3.20, Residual Sugar:5.9 g/l.

      • "This is brilliant. It's intensely aromatic on the nose displaying passionfruit, feijoa, peach and herbaceous characters, followed by a juicy palate that's concentrated and powerful. The wine is beautifully framed by bright acidity providing excellent length and structure. At its best: now to 2017. $20.00. Moderate availability. Dec 2013. ***** 94/100."

  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2012

    • The 2012 vintage was one of the most unusual in the history of grape growing in Marlborough and has presented us with a Sauvignon Blanc of exceptional quality. After a spring and summer characterised by cool days and only scattered bursts of hot weather things were not looking promising. Then an extraordinary Indian summer and a long hot autumn turned everything around and presented us with fruit of exceptional quality and finesse.

The fruit for this wine was picked up to three weeks later than usual, in late April 2012, from the very best rows on our Jacksons Road vineyard. Our desire is to present a perfectly ripe style of Sauvignon and to achieve this we utilise careful viticultural practices to ensure low yielding, impeccably clean, ripe fruit. The grapes were harvested in the cool of night to retain the classical Sauvignon characters. This wine was entirely fermented and handled in stainless steel and was retained on lees for many months to gain extra complexity.

Pale lemon in colour, it has a lovely herbal nose; grassy and herbaceous with quite distinct citrus hints of mandarine, lime and grapefruit. On the palate it is beautifully mouth-filling and moreish, and impeccably balanced with crisp acidity. The appealing lime citrus characters carry through on the palate of this very refreshing and satisfying wine. It has an impressively fine, lineal finish with the lime characters lingering enticingly.

Overall this is a rich, medium bodied wine with great mouth-feel and a lovely, crisp, dry, elegant finish. Like most of our previous Sauvignons it will continue to develop and gain even greater complexity for many years, proving once again that Sauvignon well handled can produce an age-worthy wine.

      Alcohol:12.9%, Acidity: 7.4, PH: 3.20, Residual Sugar:4.2 g/l.

      • "Pristine and lifted on the nose, the gorgeous bouquet shows feijoa, grapefruit, white peach and herbaceous characters. The palate is concentrated and focused with excellent mid palate weight and texture, leading to an impressively long crisp finish. Not as blowsy as some, this is precise, beautifully expressed and very appealing. At its best: now to 2017. $20.00. 12.5% Screw cap. ***** 93/100."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2013

"Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, very pale on rim. The nose is tight bound and fresh with bright, mouthwatering gooseberry fruit with nuances of passionfruit, fresh herbs and minerals, the aromatics clear-cut, pure and penetrating. Dry to taste, this is very elegant with refined flavours of English gooseberries, limes, nettles, herbs and citrus fruits. The palate is concentrated with a stylish textural line, enlivened by quenching acidity that contributes a delicious lusciousness. The flavours are carried to a very long, racy, fine-textured and dry finish. This is an elegant and concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with classical gooseberryish flavours. Match with seafood and salads over the next 2-3 years. Cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 12.9% alc. and 4.2 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees. **** 18.0+/20 ."

  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2011

    • Fruit from our very best Sauvignon blocks was used for our 2011 Sauvignon Blanc. This is the driest Sauvignon we have made in an attempt to allow the fruit to express itself in the purest sense.

Pale lemon in colour, this wine has a lovely herbal nose; crisp, herbaceous and grassy with appealing citrus hints of lemon and grapefruit. It is very precise on the palate, impeccably balanced with crisp acidity. The appealing lemon and lime characters carry through to the palate of this mouth filling and very refreshing wine. It has an impressively fine rather lineal finish with the lime characters lingering enticingly.

Overall this is a rich, medium bodied wine with great mouth-feel and a lovely, dry, elegant finish. Like most of our previous Sauvignons it will continue to develop and gain even greater complexity for many years, proving once again that Sauvignon well handled can produce an age-worthy wine.

  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2010

    • Silver Medal Spegilau International Wine Show June 2011.

The grapes for this wine were selected from throughout our estate vineyard where we have several different blocks producing fruit with subtly different characteristics. Seven separate harvests ensured all of the fruit came in at optimum ripeness in order to meet our specific flavour requirements. The growing season and the conditions on our vineyard were perfect for sauvignon blanc and with our low yields (approximately 9 tonnes per hectare) we were able to harvest all of our fruit in perfect condition, possibly the best ever. Most of the grapes were harvested in the cool of the night and all were fermented in stainless steel. The wine was left on its lees to give added complexity.

Pale straw in colour, this Sauvignon Blanc has pure, crisp, ripe, tropical, citrus and herbaceous aromas. It is particularly mouth filling with a delightful medium bodied, grassy and herbaceous hit on the palate. The overall impression is of considerable elegance and class with great balance, perfectly pitched acidity and a wonderful array of flavours. The finish is long, crisp and lingering, almost spicy in intensity. Already delightful, this wine promises to develop even further complexity given time in bottle.

      • "The wine is fragrant and vibrant showing classic herbaceous characters with ripe feijoa and passionfruit notes. It's succulent and lively on the palate showing excellent weight and harmony, leading to a lingering crisp finish. The wine is intensely flavoured for immediate drinking, but it is well structured and balanced, suggesting it will evolve nicely too. At its best: now to 2014. 13.5% Screw cap. www.riverbyestate.com. June 2011. 91/100."

"Ripely scented, full-bodied wine with melon/lime flavours and crisp acidity.  Tangy and sweet-fruited, with good depth.  $19 (A, US)"
        Michael Cooper July 2011

"The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc displays a pronounced nose of ripe apples, peaches and asparagus with hints of capsicum and white pepper. Medium bodied with a good line of racy acidity cutting through the concentrated herbal and apple flavours, it has a lengthy finish. Drink it now to 2013."
Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Oct 2011

"Benefiting from the mellowing of an extra year's bottle age, this hints of hot, dusty river stones and green fruits, has good concentration and intensity and a lingering finish. "

  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2009

    • The grapes for this wine were selected from throughout our estate vineyard. Five separate harvests ensured all of the fruit came in at optimum ripeness in order to meet our specific flavour requirements. The growing season and the conditions on our vineyard were perfect for sauvignon blanc and with our low yields (less than 4 tonnes per acre on average) we were able to harvest all of our fruit in perfect condition. Most of the grapes were harvested in the cool of the night and all were fermented in stainless steel. The wine was left on its lees to give added complexity.

Light straw lemon in colour, this Sauvignon Blanc has an elegant and perhaps understated nose with endearing hints of citrus, especially lemon and lime, passionfruit and an attractive peachy, nectarine tinge. The palate is medium to full bodied with a dryish, slightly spicy, citrus and passionfruit flavour. It is a very subtle, clean, fruity and fleshy wine with perfect balance. It finishes dry and crisp with a lovely lingering elegant aftertaste. The lasting impression is of a quite charming, very moreish and very drinkable wine.

        Michael Cooper, Winestate, 2010

"Nicely balanced and modest in intensity, the restrained nose shows lime zest, green apple and subtle herbaceous characters. The palate is tightly structured with a juicy mouthfeel and bright acidity. An elegant expression of the variety with less pungent varietal flavours than the classic Marlborough model. At its best: now to 2013"
        Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 2010

"The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc provides intense grapefruit, Golden Delicious and pears aromas with a subtle undercurrent of fresh herbs. Medium bodied, it has a good concentration of apple and pear flavors with crisp acidity and a long finish. Drink it now to 2012. 87/100"

  •  Riverby Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2008

    • The grapes for this wine were selected from throughout our estate vineyard. Six separate harvests ensured all of the fruit came in at optimum ripeness in order to meet our specific flavour requirements. A tiny portion of Semillon was added to the final blend and the wine was left on its lees to give added complexity.

Light to medium straw green in colour, this wine has an exuberant nose of apples, pineapple, melon, lime and passionfruit on a background of traditional sweaty gooseberry characters. It is pleasantly full bodied with lingering acidity and complex flavours of grapefruit, lime, gooseberry and passionfruit. This is a very juicy, almost creamy, style of wine with great mouth-feel, satisfying complexity and an impressive minerality. The finish is long and lingering and ultimately quite clear and refreshing.

      • "Grassy citrussy scents with herbs and lemon drops. Some sweetness to the flavours with a lightly spritzy texture, some bubble gum esters, summer herbs, a touch of tropical fruit, an earthy, steely undercurrent and racy acidity. It fleshes out on the finish with fresh tropical fruit emerging on the lingering aftertaste. Very nice with fennel and seafood. "

"Mouthfilling and gently aromatic, with ripe, tropical fruit flavours showing good depth and a dry finish."
        Michael Cooper, Winestate, March 2009

"It's relatively reserved on the nose for a Marlborough Sauvignon but the aromas are fresh and pure displaying passionfruit, fresh herb, lime and a touch of mineral notes. The palate is full and well concentrated with excellent balance and structure from citrus acidity leading to a very fine long finish. This is not the overtly pungent style, which makes this wine an excellent food partner. At its best: now to 2011. ***** 91/100"
        Wine Orbit 2009

"Lemongreen.  Bouquet is sweet, ripe and mild, black passionfruit more than red capsicum, faintest sweet basil, all a little milder than the Astrolabe Voyage.  Essential flavours are very similar, so this is a good Marlborough sauvignon for those who find many of them too sharp.  It is drier than the commercial average, though.  Cellar 2 – 8 years, to taste.  GK 04/09 18+ ****"
